About the role

As the Engineering Lead, you will focus primarily on managing a team of talented and ambitious engineers, reporting directly to the VP of Engineering. We believe in a strong sense of ownership and proactivity from our engineers and encourage close cooperation between Product and Tech.

This shapes the interactions and behavioural patterns in the organization, with a strong emphasis on self-managed teams and a lean decision-making process. This directly affects the role of the Lead: rather than dictating team direction, you will wear the hat of a servant leader, cultivating a collaborative spirit and independent decision-making process.

You will participate in Product and Architectural meetings, collaborate closely with the Delivery team to estimate deliverable targets, and be responsible for maintaining a delicate but critical equilibrium in team morale and spirit.

Key Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership: You will conduct weekly or bi-weekly one-on-one calls with team members, fostering their well-being, defining their goals, and checking on the progress of these goals.
• Scaling & Mentorship: You aren't just a solo strategist. You will be responsible for mentoring junior developers and establishing best coding and engineering practices for the shared codebase. However, you are not required to be the most knowledgeable person in everything; your goal is to help others grow and grow together with them.
• Tech High Quality: Collaborate with other engineers and tech teams to define shared standards, best coding practices, and enforce a design-first approach.
• Stakeholder Synergy: Act as the primary catalyst between Product, Delivery, and your team to ensure our solutions maintain high quality, are delivered on time, and are commercially viable.

Skills & Experience:

• Non-Negotiables
  • Startup Mindset: You are looking to trade corporate hierarchy for startup agility. You are a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and is comfortable getting your hands dirty while building a department.
  • Leadership: Proven experience in people management is essential. You have a track record of hiring, mentoring, and setting OKRs for high-performing product teams.
  • Technical Literacy: 5+ years in software development in Kotlin, microservices and event driven systems, with a strong focus on API-first products and developer experience.
• The "Huge Plus" (TradFi)
  • You have worked with finance in any shape or form and understand the scrutiny and rigid requirements for consistency, quality, and properly-designed solutions.
  • You worked or have a proficient knowledge about payments and various cycles of payment flows and schemes.
• Core Competencies
  • Visual Thinker: You lean toward wireframes, flowcharts, and diagrams to explain complex logic before a single line of code is written.
  • Exceptional Communicator: You can synthesise complex regulatory or technical constraints into clear, compelling narratives for both internal teams and external clients.
  • Excellent conflict defuser: You can steer passionate technical conversations within acceptable boundaries, leading to meaningful and lucrative results.
