Continuum Industries is on a mission to help the world accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future using Artificial Intelligence. We have developed Optioneer, an AI-powered tool that helps plan new infrastructure projects much faster, more sustainably and with lower risk. Since launch, we have supported over 40,000 km of new linear infrastructure; underground and subsea power cables, overhead transmission lines, hydrogen, and water pipelines. Optioneer is already used by enterprise infrastructure organisations such as; National Grid, BP, RWE, SSEN Transmission, Iberdrola and National Gas Transmission in the US, UK and Europe.
GIS is part of our Customer Success (CS) team; a multi-functional team, primarily focused on servicing customer relationships and maintaining our data catalogue. The GIS team supports CS by developing tools for the acquisition and processing of data in new geographies, as well as developing approaches to new product offerings. This includes prototyping new use cases, workflows, and automation. Continuum Industries manages a library of terabytes of spatial data covering the UK, Ireland, Europe, and North America. We connect to multiple types of spatial data services and are rapidly expanding to cover more geographies and technologies.
You will be working in a capacity that impacts every project that comes through Continuum Industries and directly influences the product offering in Optioneer. Your time will be spent developing key relationships with GIS data providers, maintaining interfaces to APIs and data sources, and encouraging best practices for the storage and analysis of worldwide spatial data. These solutions may include developing specifications for new products and ensuring Optioneer as an offering is compatible with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interfacing with APIs: Use a variety of technologies that are used for distributing spatial data to curate and grow our data offering
  • Data Integrity: Ensure that we are adhering to specifications and that our data repository grows sustainably
  • Create: Designing and creating new products that utilise spatial data from across the world in novel ways
  • Collaborate: Work with the Customer Success and Product teams to help drive projects and advance Optioneer’s product offering
  • Build and evolve Relationships: with organisations such as National Mapping Agencies and commercial data providers such as Ordnance Survey, Environment Agency, Historic England, and their international equivalents
  • Design: ETL pipelines for spatial data and implementing efficient ways to process and store data.

You'll bring:

  • Spatial ecosystem understanding: Geonetwork, ArcGIS REST API, OGC, CKAN, INSPIRE, OpenStreetMap
  • ETL Pipeline development: Including exposure to cloud storage, APIs, Python for GIS
  • Geospatial data ecosystem: Raster data (remote sensing, SAR), vector data, point clouds (Lidar), databases (PostGIS)
  • Collaborative Mentality: It’s your default setting (and ours), our belief is we achieve more when we work together and you enjoy sharing/hearing about different ideas
  • Awareness of open-source practices: You’ve had exposure to non-proprietary technology to achieve dependable outputs.
  • Communication: You're comfortable operating across multiple work streams simultaneously, collaborating with technical/non-technical teams. You’ll know how valuable good communication is to delivering projects effectively and will default to seeking clarity rather than assuming knowledge.

Bonus points for:

  • Modelling: CAD and BIM concepts
  • Data Storage & Management: Data lakes, data warehousing, reporting, MongoDB, DuckDB
  • Data visualisation: QGIS reports, Matplotlib, Folium
  • Project Management & Tracking: Notion, Jira

What you'll get:

  • 💸 £45,000 - £55,000 base salary + equity
  • 🌎 Ownership: You’ll own a piece of our company through our share option scheme
  • 🤸‍♂️ Flexible working environment & hours: We're outcome-focused
  • 🏖 Annual vacation entitlement: 34 days including local holidays
  • 💻 Technology: A brand new Macbook (and work-from-home budget)
  • 🎓 Extensive upskilling opportunities: one dedicated learning day each month + learning budget
  • 🌲 An opportunity to help us accelerate the world’s transition to net zero, and rewire the world with cleaner, green energy.

Our interview process:

  • 30min conversation with our Talent Acquisition team to get to know you better and vice versa.
  • 60 min Interview with the Hiring Team
  • Complete at-home assignment
  • Final interviews where you'll walk through your case study and cover other technical and behavioural areas.
  • Decision 🤝
