About the role:
We are seeking a visionary and strategic Director of Engineering to lead, mentor, and scale our entire engineering organization. The ideal candidate is a seasoned technical leader who can drive the company's technical strategy, foster a culture of innovation, and ensure the delivery of high-impact, scalable solutions. You will be a key member of the leadership team, working cross-functionally with Product, Design, and other departments to build a world-class engineering function that aligns with our ambitious company goals.
This role is a critical leadership position with a significant impact on the company's long-term success and technological direction.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and scale the entire engineering organization, overseeing multiple teams in the design, development, and delivery of high-quality software products.
- Coach and mentor senior engineering managers and technical leaders, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across the department.
- Partner with the executive team to define and execute the company's technical vision, strategy, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term growth.
- Drive the company's architectural and technical strategy, making key decisions on technology stacks, scalability, and infrastructure to support future growth.
- Develop and manage the engineering budget, hiring strategy, and resource allocation to ensure the department is equipped to meet its goals.
- Establish and enforce engineering-wide best practices and standards for development processes, code quality, testing, and deployment to drive engineering excellence.
- Operationalize AI-first engineering workflows across the SDLC to accelerate development velocity and automate software quality assurance.
- Champion career development across the engineering organization by creating clear growth paths, mentorship programs, and learning opportunities.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including the executive team, board of directors, and external partners, representing the company's technical strategy and capabilities.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a senior engineering leadership role (e.g., Senior Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering).
- Proven experience scaling and managing a high-performing engineering organization in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Strong technical background and a deep understanding of modern cloud application development, architecture, and infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing a long-term technical strategy in partnership with executive leadership.
- Success delivering scalable AI/ML products from concept to production, with a focus on model performance and high-compliance data security.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a large and diverse team.
- Extensive experience with Agile or Scrum development methodologies at scale.
- Proven ability to deliver complex, high-impact products in close partnership with product and design leaders.
- Experience working in a startup or high-growth company, and ideally, experience in a regulated environment.
